Interested to share ideas on measuring / managing CRE emissions data and decarbonising / transitioning portfolio to net zero.

Are you currently tracking emissions against stated carbon reduction / net-zero ambitions ?

Can you reach 2030 / 2050 goals without offsetting your carbon emissions ?

Is anyone planning to reduce thier emissions legacy ?

Governments everywhere are now legislating in order to accelerate our transition to a net zero world.

In UK, the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) Regulations are anticipated to act as a catalyst in the accelerated transition of our Industry to a low carbon world.

The requirement to provide Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) whenever a property is built, sold, or rented heightens the importance of significantly reducing carbon emissions across both the domestic and commercial real estate sectors.

However, to achieve the UK's 2030 ambitions (68% reduction in emissions compared to 1990 levels) the minimum EPC rating ... currently set at 'E' ... will likely need to be raised to an EPC rating of B or C.

Given that more than 90% of London offices are estimated to have an EPC rating of 'C' or worse, the Industry risks lagging behind in its contribution to the UK's targeted reductions.

Consultation regarding proposed changes to the MEES regulations and compliance with a revised EPC rating of 'B' by 2030 in nearing conclusion, see link below.

MEES: EPC B implementation

Will a £5,000 penalty for non-compliance with new EPC 'B' rating spark wave of green investment ?
